Collaborative Support for Working with Dissociation and Trauma
Collaborative Support
I offer consultation to therapists seeking to enhance their skills and practice in their work with clients with dissociation, up to and including dissociative identity disorder. Support is provided around ongoing assessment for dissociation, and using ego state therapy and EMDR to heal dissociated parts.
Consultation can support additional learning and expand one’s knowledge base in a supportive and collaborative environment. I have specialized in trauma therapy since becoming a registered psychologist in 2010. I have also completed many hours of consultation with Dr. Sandra Paulsen, who pioneered the use of EMDR with structurally dissociative clients. She is a Fellow of the International Society for Trauma and Dissociation. Her book Looking through the Eyes of Trauma and Dissociation: An Illustrated Guide for Therapists and Clients, is a very helpful tool for those in this field. I feel inspired to extend what I have learned from her to my colleagues and do so with her blessing.
Please note that I can only provide professional consultations to therapists who are registered in Alberta.

Questions on Professional Consultations
What types of cases or clients can your consultation services help me with?
My consultations are designed to support therapists working with clients who exhibit signs of dissociation, which may include:
- Gaps in memory or inability to recall significant portions of their life, such as childhood.
- Experiences of “loss of time,” where the client cannot account for extended periods of time.
- A sense of feeling disconnected from their identity, or not knowing who they are.
- A lack of control over behaviors, often accompanied by confusion or distress about their actions.
- Dysregulated moods, self-harm tendencies, or suicidal ideation.
- Persistent feelings of disconnection from themselves or others, which may manifest as detachment from reality or relationships.
In addition to these symptoms, you might notice that despite numerous sessions and addressing various concerns, progress remains slow or stagnant. If you’ve tried approaches like EMDR and found that your client’s distress levels are not decreasing, or are even worsening, dissociation may be at play. My consultations provide guidance and tools to help navigate these challenges and facilitate healing.
How does your consultation process work?
I offer flexible consultation options to meet your needs. You can choose between one-on-one support or group consultation appointments. Whether you’re seeking a single consultation to address a specific case or ongoing support for general learning and case reviews, the process is tailored to your preferences.
You may schedule a one-time consultation if you need targeted advice, or opt for ongoing sessions to deepen your understanding of working with dissociation and trauma. My goal is to provide guidance and collaboration in a format that works best for your professional development and client needs.
Do I need prior experience with dissociation or EMDR to benefit from your consultations?
No prior experience with dissociation or EMDR is necessary to benefit from my consultations. Whether you’re a new therapist or have years of experience, learning more about dissociation can help you better identify clients who may be struggling with these challenges. This knowledge allows for a more focused and informed approach to treatment planning.
For therapists looking to incorporate EMDR into their practice, understanding when dissociation is present is crucial, as EMDR may require a carefully structured treatment plan. While you do not need prior experience with EMDR to consult with me, please note that using EMDR as part of client treatment requires completion of an EMDR Basic Training Program. My consultations can complement your learning and enhance your skills in these areas.
What is the cost of your consultation services?
The cost for one-on-one consultations is $220 per hour. Group consultation fees vary depending on factors such as group size, location, and specific needs. I can work with you to design a group session that fits your goals and requirements. If you’re interested in group consultation, feel free to reach out, and we can discuss the details to find the best solution for your group.
Can I receive professional consultations if I am a therapist registered outside of Alberta?
At this time, I can only provide professional consultations to therapists who are registered in Alberta. This is in accordance with guidelines issued by the College of Alberta Psychologists, which stipulate that psychologists must limit their professional practice, including consultations, to the jurisdiction in which they are registered. These guidelines ensure that all psychological services comply with Alberta’s laws, ethical standards, and professional regulations.
